Designing an kid-friendly mobile app for mood-tracking, reflection and building emotional intelligence

Teaching kids to take a moment

This was a group project at General Assembly where we were asked to come up with a mobile app to help young students with incidents and emotional issues such as bullying. We were also tasked to think of a sponsor, ideally a well-known name brand, and use their brand guidelines when creating our visuals.

We decided to address the larger frame of young students’ emotional well-being.

GOAL

We wanted to provide them with a tool that would help them cope emotionally in any situation.

ROLE

For this project I was in charge of Visual Design, Prototyping and creating the high fidelity screens. I also took part in conducting user interviews, and competitive/comparative analysis.

Research

Our research led us to mood meters and journaling as methods to help with daily emotional health. We analyzed apps that provided these features.

Insights

While there are a number of products out there, none exist for a younger user. We wanted to create an app for middle-school aged kids, but still provided the essential features that help with emotional well-being.
